Module TopicsĀ
Assessment is a foundational component of ethical and effective applied behavior analysis (ABA) practice. This module introduces the major categories of assessment tools used in clinical and applied settings and examines the specific clinical questions each assessment type is designed to answer. Participants will review commonly used assessment approaches including skill acquisition assessments, functional behavior assessments, stimulus preference and reinforcer assessments, ecological assessments, quality-of-life measures, riskābenefit evaluations, and social validity assessments. Building on this foundation, participants will apply an assessment selection framework that integrates multiple contextual variables including symptom impact, quality of life, cultural considerations, learning history, and ecological readiness to guide individualized assessment planning. Emphasis is placed on selecting tools that produce meaningful information for clinical decision-making. Participants will examine the role and timing of assessments across the treatment cycle, including intake and progress evaluations, and explore how ongoing assessment supports ethical practice, treatment adaptation, and socially meaningful outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
